Climbing adventure

On the Easter weekend the weather continued to be sunny (thanks to our Finnish friends who brought the sunshine and didn't take it back). The inner monkey in us woke up. Being unable to resist our urge to climb trees we came up with the idea to visit a nearby climbing park.

The park Kraxelmaxel is located in the village Kirchhatten and can be reached easily by bus from Oldenburg.

Equipped with climbing harness, a helmet and ropes we started to move vertically. The park people were quite meticulous about us securing ourselves properly and following their rules, so starting with easy routes we got used to our climbing equipment. The climbing starts by first going up a ladder to a platform from where one goes from tree to tree following a defined route. The route is divided into segments where each segment is a different way to get from tree to tree e.g. tightrope walking, swinging like Tarzan or just sliding.

In the three hours of climbing we went through all six routes in Kraxelmaxel. The last route was the highest and most difficult. In the end of this route was a special part not everyone dared to do: You have to jump from a platform into a net hanging between trees. By the time we reached this part Nina's arms had turned into spaghetti so she skipped the jumping for one also needs to climb up the net. Pauli gathered his gorilla like powers and went for it.

After all this Pauli also turned into spaghetti and we headed home. Back in Oldenburg we nourished our tired bodies with salty French fries, mayonnaise, ketchup and Weißbier. All well deserved!
