Last week Pauli's friends from Finland visited us. On Saturday we spent a day in Bremen.
After taking a morning stroll through Bremen's old town we landed in a local cafe/ brewery where some of us had to taste the local beer called "Schnoor bräu", other preferred coffee at this time of the day.
In the afternoon we rented bikes. Our way through the biggest park in Bremen lead to the so called Blockland (an area of fields and ditches: a typically northern German look). Unfortunately, the weather wasn't as good and warm as expected but nevertheless we had a pick nick on a bench that was waiting just for us to have a rest. Good German cheese, bread and imported graped lifted our spirits dampened by the gloomy weather.
Due to Esa's late arrival he had missed out on the morning stroll through the Schnoor and other tourists sides. Therefore we biked to all the important sides in a lovely post-sunset atmosphere within ten minutes. Esa was happy.
Now it was time to "kegeln". Kegeln is a German version of bowling: the ball is smaller and has no holes, the lanes are narrower and there are only nine cones to hit. It also involves eating, shouting and drinking beer. The kegel place seemed to be very well hidden but Pauli had been there earlier and knew the way. Split into boy- and girls + Esa as support teams we kegeled couple of hours with the result that the "girls + Esa team" won the first game! It was a lot of fun.
Back at the train station Susanna and Joonas - who had been with us since Thursday - departed from our company to sleep in a nearby hostel. They had an early flight to catch the next morning. The rest of us headed back to Oldenburg and had a good night sleep.
On Sunday Esa had to go home to Frankfurt but Katri and Jaakko stayed another two days. In this time we mostly hang out eating cheese and ice cream flushed down with an occasional beer.
Thank you Susanna, Joonas, Katri, Jaakko and Esa for brining the sunshine to Germany and thanks for bringing a lovely ("ihana") change to our routine lives.
Unfortunately, we forgot our camera so there are no pictures available.
