Fairbanks

The two days is Fairbanks are over and now we are in Nikiski. There was not much to do in Fairbanks but our days were filled anyways. The first day we went to the downtown area. Unfortunately, it was really small and the 45 min bike ride was pretty much in vain. However, we got some information about what to do in this town.
The next day we went for a little hike on the university trails. It was nice but in the end the mosquitoes were really bothering us. Afterwards we went to the university museum where we learned something about the aurora borealis (the northern lights) and about Alaska in the Second World War. After the museum we took a bus to downtown. Our plan was to play mini golf but the bus took us to the movies so we went there. It was really nice to see a movie in the original version without subtitles on a huge screen. We wanted to take the bus back but couldn't find the bus station so we walked 3 miles to the next pizza place. We were rewarded with a good pizza and a cool beer.
On our third day in Fairbanks we went to the Large Animal Research Station. They offered a little tour and a very informational speech. We learned for example that caribou grow new antlers every year and so do moose. Again we tried to play mini golf but first we ate a reindeer hot dog and then took a nap. After that I didn't want to play mini golf anymore. We biked to the botanical garden but it was so hot that day (28 degree) that we didn't stay there too long. After dinner we had a long discussion if we want to go see the sun set but we were so tired that we just went to bed.

Like I said, we are in Nikiski now. Diane picked us up from the airport and we visited Dale at his work place. After dinner we went to the beach and visited the school. Unfortunately, the homeland security closed my favorite beach just a couple of weeks ago.

Now it is time to go out and do something.
